The osProtection.org team at Clone Systems has teamed up with theOpen Information Security Foundation (OISF) and Emerging Threats to create a new partnership to further advance the open source development of osProtect.org, which will allow users to build their own next generation IDS/IPS with enterprise level security and enhanced capability by leveraging Suricata.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 04, 2012

osProtect.org is the free enterprise level IDS/IPS management tool being developed as part of the osProtection.org initiative, which consists of three enterprise level tools; osDiscover.org for vulnerability scanning, osProtect.org for IDS & IPS, and osCollect.org for log management.

Suricata is a rule-based IDS/IPS engine that utilizes externally developed rulesets to monitor network traffic and provide alerts to the system administrator when suspicious events occur. Because Suricata is designed to be compatible with most existing network security components, it can easily be integrated with the osProtect solution, to leverage features like the pluggable library options to accept calls from other applications.

“We’re very excited about this latest development for osProtect, as we can now offer the user the ability to literally create their own multi-gigabit IPS with the advanced rulesets from Emerging Threats and the performance of Suricata. As a multi-threaded engine, we believe Suricata offers users an increased speed and efficiency in network traffic analysis, especially for some of the larger devices and when throughput becomes a factor,” says Tom Nianios, osProtection.org’s security engineer from Clone Systems.

"We are very excited about the partnership with Clone Systems, and the opportunity to further advance the rule and event managers that will be available to the community via the osProtection.org project,” says Victor Julien, OISF's lead developer of Suricata.
