The OISF is a non-profit foundation organized to engage in cutting edge security technology research. Our initial project focus is on building a next generation IDS/IPS engine. The OISF has formed a multi-national group of the leading security software developers and engaged the open source security community to identify current and future IDS/IPS needs and requirements. A key component to the success of the foundation for the long term is the participation and support of leading cyber-security companies and academic research organizations interested in bringing the open source security community into the next generation of thought leadership. The OISF welcomes participation and contributions large and small.
Initial funding for the OISF comes from the US Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate (DHS), the US Navy's Space and Warfare Command (SPAWAR) and a number of private companies that participate in the OISF Consortium. The OISF is a part of the DHS Homeland Open Security Technology program. Over time, the OISF will take on new projects and challenges in the open source security field. Future OISF project proposals are welcome and should be submitted using the ‘Contact Us’ link.
Membership in the OISF Consortium Group provides a non-gpl limited license for the Suricata IDS engine in return for ongoing support. There are multiple tiers available for consortium participation that simplify the varying levels of support and involvement possible for all types of interest. Contributions may range from man hours in development assistance, technology donations, hardware and infrastructure, to financial assistance. Consortium Group members are given the opportunity to actively participate in the discussions that shape the future of the Foundation.
